Here is your free yoga sequence! Give it a go and have a chat to me about it if you like:-)
Before you begin, there a few common misconceptions about yoga that we should address:
1. I am not flexible enough to do yoga!
If you think you are not very flexible, then a yoga class is just the place to be! Flexibility is not required to do yoga, it is merely one of the benefits that come along with it. At YogaPlusPhysio we offer a range of classes to cater to all different levels.
2. Yoga is too easy and is just about stretching
Yoga, by its very nature is designed to help you move forward from where you are at the moment. This means a beginner and an experienced person will work on many of the same postures but in a very different way. Building strength and endurance, concentration and focus on breathing and moving in and out of postures can be very challenging, both physically and mentally. It is a great workout for anyone. Yoga is more about working mindfully and allowing muscle to naturally lengthen rather than stretching.
3. Yoga will be too hard
Anyone can do yoga. It can be done as a strenuous and challenging practice or it can even be done in chairs. It just needs to be adapted to your level and you need to be discerning as you work so that you don’t try to keep up with the person on the mat beside you. You should however, select an appropriate class level and it is very important to work at your own pace.
4. I am too old to start yoga
It is never too late to start yoga. You can experience enormous benefits at any age. Just choose an appropriate class level.
Now that we've dispelled any misconceptions, let's get started!
YOGA SEQUENCE FOR BEGINNERS
This yoga sequence is aPPROXIMATELY 20 minuteS, FOLLOWED BY 5 MINUTES OF MEDITATION. IT IS designed for beginners. It is similar to the style of yoga done in our beginner classes.
Before you begin, find a quiet space where you can stretch out on the floor. If you don't have a yoga mat do this sequence on the carpet. Have a thick cushion handy to sit on at the end.
Note: please don't do anything that you feel is uncomfortable in your body. If you experience any pain, please stop straight away. If you have any health conditions, please see your doctor or physiotherapist before doing this sequence.
I hope you have enjoyed this sequence and are feeling more energised and relaxed!
As you have probably noticed, yoga isn't just about stretching and exercise. It is also incredibly beneficial for the mind. Yoga helps you channel your concentration as you focus on your body and movements and forget about all your other worries, even if it's just for 20 minutes! Students leave class feeling rejuvenated and restored.
If you would like to join us at YogaPlusPhysio in The Gap, our next yoga term is commencing May 29th. Don't worry if you miss this date, we also take bookings throughout the term.
We have a few spots left in some of our beginner classes. You can book online here.
All YogaPlusPhysio beginner classes are led by a physiotherapist/yogatherapist so you can be sure you are in good hands!
SEE WHAT SOME OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY...
“For the past two years I have been attending yoga classes with Sonja. Over that time my flexibility and strength have improved out of sight. We work at our own individual levels and Sonja gently encourages and corrects us so that we get the most out of each posture. I really enjoy the meditative side of yoga and find it helps me cope with the general stresses and strains of daily life. My tailored home routine is particularly beneficial after a long day sitting at my computer. Sonja is a very kind, encouraging and insightful teacher and thankfully she also has a great sense of humour and a beautiful Om!”
“I have found that after almost 2 years of yoga classes with Sonja I have seamlessly progressed my level of flexibility and strength. Challenges are offered and are perfectly balanced with periods of resting and relaxation. Students with particular functional issues are not neglected while the class continues to work constructively. I always walk out the door feeling empowered physically and mentally.”
